Before you fly

Packing List.

Here is the honest version: Alaska gives you sun, rain, and a cold snap in the same afternoon, so you pack for all three. The Lodge keeps rain gear, rubber boots, and chest waders on hand, so bring what fits you best and we will cover the rest. Dress casual everywhere, restaurants included. Print this and check it off as you go.

1

Clothing, pack in layers

Weather shifts fast and summer days run long. A couple pairs of pants is plenty, plus shorts and tees for the warm days and a fleece, gloves, and a hat for the cold ones. Bring a swimsuit for the spa.

2

Your lucky hat

One for sun, one for rain, or one that does both. A knit pullover earns its spot too.

3

Camera and photo gear

Your phone and camera will see fresh and salt water both. Bring a waterproof case if you have one, and back up your devices before you fly. You will come home with a lot of photos.

4

Fishing tackle

Bring your spinning or fly setup for the trout streams. The Lodge has limited gear on hand and there are good shops nearby, so you can fill gaps when you land. Everything you need for guided excursions is provided.

5

Foul-weather gear

Rain gear, rubber boots, and chest waders are stocked for guest use, and we fit most folks M to XXL. If you own a set that fits you right, bring it. Otherwise, we have got you.

6

Meds and comfort

Pack sea-sickness meds or ask your doctor about a patch, the Inlet can roll. Sunscreen and bug lotion round it out.

7

Spares for what you depend on

Glasses, contacts, hearing aids, chargers, prescriptions, bring backups. Replacements are hard to come by out here, so plan ahead.

8

Luggage and your fish box

Baggage allowance varies by airline. Most guests fly home with a 50-lb box of fish as checked luggage, and the Lodge freezes and packs your catch for the trip.

9

Alaska fishing license

Every angler 18 and up needs one. Buy it online before you arrive at the ADF&G store, or pick one up five minutes from the Lodge. King salmon needs a separate stamp, so grab that too.

10

Special diet

Bring any specialty items you cannot go without. Tell us your restrictions on your registration form and our Lodge cook will make every meal work for you.

11

Cash and tips

Bring cash for guides, lodge staff, your license, and local shops. There is an ATM five minutes away if you run short.

12

Where to shop

basspro.com covers just about everything on this list, and there are solid local shops within an hour of the Lodge if you would rather buy when you land.

Do not overthink the boots. They are not required, the Lodge keeps rubber boots and chest waders for guest use. Just bring comfortable shoes for around camp and town, and let us handle the wet stuff.
