Lodge engineer
The gentleman behind the scenes who keeps the Lodge, cabins, bunkhaus, cottage, and grounds looking right. Opens the camp in May and closes it every September, fifteen years running.
The kitchen
A retired teacher who brings joy to every meal she sets down. First one up at the breakfast bar, last one to scrub the pan, all of it quiet and without fuss.
Head wrangler · “Big Country”
Keeps the volunteer wranglers and staff trained and ready so every guest gets the once-in-a-lifetime week they came for. You’ll find him everywhere at once.
Missions hosts
Come as a team from their home church in Georgia to host the missions weeks. Gentle, steady leadership and a deep love for Jesus and for Alaska.
Summer volunteers
Join us every year in late July and August. Ed first came with his sons and grandsons in 2016 wanting a Christian Alaska adventure, and the family has come back ever since.
In loving memory
The heart of the lodge
The face everyone came to endear, the “hostess with the mostess.” Behind every birthday, every anniversary, every big fish landed, and every bit of scripture tucked in a lunch box. Everyone wished they could take her home.
John Schumacher · 1934–2021
A retired military chaplain whose stories, faith, and love for the outdoors changed more lives at the camp than anyone. The Outpost carries his name.
